Hailed as ‘queen of the qanun’, Maya Youssef is a globally renowned qanun player and composer from Syria who arrived in the UK in 2012. Since then, Maya has pushed the boundaries of the qanun (a 78 stringed plucked zither), releasing two award-winning albums, Syrian Dreams (2017) and Finding Home (2022) reflecting themes of exile, memory, and identity, and performing at major festivals and concert halls throughout the UK, Europe, and the Arab world.
