Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment

A Day Made With Sound, Saturday 1 August

Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment (OAE) is one of the world’s leading period-instrument orchestras, internationally renowned for bringing fresh insight and vitality to music from the Baroque through to the Romantic era.

Founded in 1986, the OAE is distinctive for its collaborative approach — working without a permanent conductor and instead partnering with leading musicians and scholars to shape each project. Performing on instruments appropriate to the period of the music, the orchestra combines historical understanding with a dynamic, contemporary energy.

The OAE is Resident Orchestra at London’s Southbank Centre and Glyndebourne Festival Opera, and performs regularly at major venues and festivals worldwide. Their performances are known for clarity, precision and expressive immediacy — revealing familiar works with new colour and depth.
